Statewide Poll Indicates Majority of Alabamians Will Vote Republican in 2010 Legislative Races
Birmingham, AL – The Alabama Republican Party has released a statewide survey memorandum prepared by the highly respected national polling firm of McLaughlin & Associates which strongly indicates that Republicans are in an excellent position to take a majority in the Alabama Legislature in the November elections.
The survey, conducted on July 26 and 27, reveals that 50% of voters prefer the Republican candidate on the generic ballot for state legislature while only 33% of voters prefer the Democrat candidate. The polling memorandum can be seen by clicking here.
Another major finding from the survey is that voters agree with the Alabama Republican Party’s message that 136 years of Democrat legislative control in Montgomery is long enough and it’s time for a change. An overwhelming majority, six in ten voters, or 61%, are ready to see Republicans in the majority, while only 32% disagree.
Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn), Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party as well as the House Minority Leader, said he is encouraged, but not surprised, that voters across the state are ready for a leadership change in the Alabama Legislature.
“Obviously it is very rewarding to see that voters are ready to join our call for change in Montgomery by electing a Republican majority in the Legislature,” Hubbard said. “We’ve worked hard over the past three and a half years and I believe we have implemented a campaign plan that will get us there. In addition to an overall dissatisfaction with the corrupt and left-leaning Democrat leadership, these numbers are also a reflection on the quality of our nominees.
“While we certainly are very encouraged and energized by these survey results, I can assure everyone that we will not take our eye off of the ball," Hubbard added. "We will continue to work to deliver something the taxpayers of Alabama have deserved for a long time - an honest and ethical legislature with a Republican majority."
McLaughlin & Associates concludes the polling memorandum by stating that the political environment gives Republican candidates a “significant advantage” over the Democrat candidate.
“These numbers absolutely prove that Alabamians are rejecting the Democrats' liberal agenda in Washington and are furious that Democrats in the Alabama Legislature voted themselves a 62% pay raise,” Hubbard stated. “I am confident that Republicans will rally around all of our candidates and that these encouraging survey results will energize conservatives to do all they can into ensuring our success in November.
“By building on the solid momentum we already have in place, we will not only elect Republicans who are ready to create jobs, cut taxes, end corruption and stop wasteful spending, but we will also send a loud message to Washington that big, socialistic government is not the answer to Alabama’s - or America's - future,” Hubbard concluded.
*McLaughlin & Associates conducted a survey of 500 likely voters and has an accuracy of +/- 4.5% at a 95% confidence interval.
