ALGOP Names Houston County Native Paul Lee as Nominee in House District 86
Montgomery, AL – Today, the Candidate Committee of the Alabama Republican Party met to determine the candidate to replace Rep. Benjamin Lewis on the ballot in House District 86. The meeting comes after the Houston County Republican Party recommended three candidates for consideration – Chuck Harris, Paul Lee and Tony Taylor. After interviewing each of the three candidates, the Committee has chosen lifelong Houston County resident Paul Lee to represent the Republican Party in November.
After the meeting, Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn), Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, issued the following statement:
“We certainly appreciate the Houston County Republican Party’s due diligence in submitting three highly qualified and conservative prospects. This decision was not easy, but we are excited that Paul Lee will be carrying the GOP banner in House District 86.
“Paul is a lifelong Houston County resident and has consistently demonstrated the kind of leadership we need in the Alabama Legislature. His service on the Dothan City Commission and his experiences as a cattle farmer and businessman give Paul a real insight into the needs of the district.
“Paul’s involvement in the community demonstrates that he is truly a conservative man of the people and that he will put the citizens first. The same can’t be said for the Democrat in the race, who has already aligned himself with the same old special interest groups that have held Alabama back for far too long.
“The Party also thanks Chuck Harris and Tony Taylor for their commitment to support Paul’s candidacy. They are truly men of character who have the best interest of Republican Party, and Houston County, at heart.”
