ALGOP: James Puts Party Above Self
Birmingham — Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn), Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, issued the following statement regarding Tim James’ decision to drop his gubernatorial election contest:
“Today, Tim James demonstrated his selflessness and his character by putting best interests of the Alabama Republican Party and the State of Alabama ahead of himself. Tim’s decision to withdraw his election contest allows us to focus squarely on the runoff election, which is certainly a benefit to our Party.
“Throughout his campaign, Tim has raised issues that have resonated with many Alabamians and he has contributed greatly to the enthusiasm of our Party. He is a quality individual, a true statesman and I am proud to have him as a leader in the Republican Party.
“I look forward to working with Tim to continue the progress of the Republican Party in Alabama and ensuring historic victories up and down the ballot in November.
"The past couple of weeks have required all of us to navigate through uncharted waters with the recount, but I am extremely proud of our staff, the Republican chairmen in each county, the hundreds of volunteers and county elections officials who carried it out in a professional and efficient manner.
“I congratulate Bradley Byrne and Robert Bentley and wish them well as we look toward the runoff on July 13. Following the runoff, the Alabama Republican Party stands ready to work hand-in-hand with our nominee to keep honest, conservative leadership in the Alabama Governor’s office.”
