ALGOP Statement on Secretary of State’s Letter, Recount to Move Foward
Birmingham — On Sunday, Secretary of State Beth Chapman issued a statement indicating that the request for a recount by Tim James can legally proceed. The recount, which is to be paid for by the candidate, has officially been requested and will move forward this week. The Alabama Republican Party respects the opinion of the Secretary of State and will follow the guidelines that she set forth in regards to a recount.
Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn), Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, issued the following statement upon receipt of Chapman’s letter:
“We have consistently followed the Secretary of State’s guidelines relating to a recount, and we will continue to do so until this recount is resolved. Our involvement in this process is simply to ensure fairness and transparency so that the integrity of our election process is preserved. We respect Tim’s decision to move forward and will not impede his request for a full recount.”
