Chapman Prepares to Preside at NASS Winter Meeting

Jan 15, 2012 - 11:12 pm

Secretary of State Beth Chapman has served as president of the National Association of Secretaries of State since the organization’s meeting last summer and the first meeting since Chapman took office is just a few weeks away.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as president of NASS,” said Chapman.  “It has been a great honor that my fellow secretaries of state have given me.  It shows a high level of faith that my peers have in me. More importantly, serving in this position gives the people of Alabama a voice on the national stage on a vast number of issues, from fairness in elections to preventing identity theft.”

In addition to serving as president, she will also present the Margaret Chase Smith American Democracy Award to Alabama native and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.  The award is given each year to recognize “…acts of political courage, uncommon character, and selfless action in the realm of public service.”   Chapman nominated Rice for the award.
