FOR REPUBLICANS, A HANDSHAKE MEANS SOMETHING

By: Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn)

Hubbard Close up

August has definitely been an exciting month in the life of our Party, and it’s hard to believe that the critical November election is now just a few weeks away.  We started the month off with an overflow crowd at our "Win in 2010" unity luncheon in Montgomery where it was obvious that we have put a hard-fought Primary behind us and we are now a unified Party heading into the General Election. I want to personally thank Bradley and Rebecca Byrne for being there to make a bold statement about the importance of supporting our gubernatorial nominee, Robert Bentley, and the rest of our great ticket.

You may have seen the news earlier this month as
the Republican House and Senate Caucuses unveiled the Republican “Handshake with Alabama”, five agenda items important to Alabamians that Republicans promise to tackle immediately if the voters put Republicans in the majority in the Alabama Legislature  for the first time in 136 years.

The "Republican Handshake with Alabama" is a straightforward, conservative and progressive plan that we believe will put people back to work and restore the public’s trust in state government. The “Handshake” focuses on creating jobs, cleaning up the culture of corruption in Montgomery, making tough laws pertaining to illegal immigration and stopping the liberal power grab by President Obama and the Democrats.

You may remember that Democrats paraded their "Covenant For The Future" back in 2006 during election time but failed to deliver over the next four year despite holding a majority in both houses, Republicans believe when you shake someone's hand and make a promise, it means more than a political promise with no intention to follow through. We ask voters to give us the opportunity to prove that unlike the Democrats, we will do what we promise.

If you haven’t already seen 2010 Republican Handshake with Alabama, I encourage you to go and read more about the issues that our Republican majority would take on as our first priority
. You may find our plan by visiting www.algop.org/handshake.

We also received some terrific news on the fundraising front as the Alabama Federation of Republican Women became
the newest member of the Governor’s Circle – our highest donor level.  The AFRW’s commitment to our November success has always been second to none, and their investment of $40,000 is a major boost to our "get out the vote" initiatives.

I offer my personal thanks to Mrs. Elois Zeanah, President of the AFRW, and to all of the Republican women for always being willing to step up and work hard for the good of our Alabama Republican Party.

Remember, we have less than 80 days until November
2. We definitely have the momentum but we must not stop doing everything in our power to elect Republicans!  I believe we are in for a historic year and we are READY!
