Atmore man slapped with several hunting violations
Clinton Earl Philyaw was hit with several fines last week stemming from hunting violations earlier this year.
On Aug. 30, Philyaw pleaded guilty to charges of hunting after dark, hunting from a vehicle and hunting from a public road in January.
Philyaw, 38, of Atmore, was sentenced in District Court to pay more than $3,000 in fines.

Rogersville burglar caught by homeowner admits guilt, waits for police
ANDERSON, Alabama -- A Rogersville, Alabama, resident returned to his home on Sunday mornng to find a man stealing his lawn mower and four-wheeler and, when he confonted the would-be burglar, the suspect said he was guilt and would wait there for deputies to arrive, authorities said.

Gulf Shores man accused of tying up woman with phone cord, then beating and sexually abusing her
BAY MINETTE -- A man acquitted of rape and kidnapping in 2004 is facing similar charges stemming from an alleged assault on a woman last month in Foley.
Mark Anthony Greenwell, 49, of Gulf Shores, is set to appear in District Court on Oct. 1 in connection with his Aug. 17 arrest on charges of first-degree sodomy, third-degree assault and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, according to court records.

Bad economy, Baldwin County growth fuel jump in food stamp requests
Since the economy hit the skids, a growing Baldwin County has experienced a jump in requests for food benefits over the past year, according to local officials with the Alabama Department of Human Services.
"Our caseload has gone up significantly because of the economy," said Patricia Miller, food stamp supervisor with the DHR office in Robertsdale.
"We’ve seen a lot of clients from different walks of life," she said.

Continuance granted in manslaughter case of Perdido man
The driving under the influence case of a Perdido man charged with the death of a passenger has been continued. Christopher Hadley, 42, appeared Aug. 26 before Circuit Judge Robert Wilters, who granted the defense request for a delay.
