Democrats Cave to Special Interest Group: Block Teachers Code of Ethics

Democrat Legislators caved to the powerful special interest group that is a major donor to their party - and effectively killed the proposed teachers Code of Ethics.

 

The Code, which was written by teachers for teachers, and was approved by the State Board of Education, set ethical standards for conduct by educators. However, the AEA instructed Democrats to block the measure, calling some of the standards "vague" and "controversial."

On day one of the session, Sen Roger Bedford introduced SJR9, which was a resolution to disapprove of the educator's code of ethics. As Republicans stood up in support of ethics reform, not one Democrat voted for increased accountability.

K.L. Brown & Jay Dill in Runoff for House District 40

Birmingham — The voting in today’s Republican primary election for State House District 40 requires the Alabama Republican Party to conduct a runoff to decide the Party’s nominee. K.L. Brown and Jay Dill will vie for the Republican nomination in the runoff on Tuesday, February 16th.  The winner of the runoff will face Democrat Ricky Whaley in the special general election to be held Tuesday, March 30th.
